The sunset is blinding today.
\nThe bridge seems to have shed its cables,
\nAnd everything tapers to a methodical hissing, a calm.
\nI cannot hear above the wheels that softly sing<\/p>\n

What seems a lullaby to soothe all of creation,
\nMeant to reach even into the rich marrow of stars.
\nI dreamed this once,
\nThe bridge, the sea, the song of the train,<\/p>\n

And in the dream there were fluorescent trees,
\nFuchsia, bright yellow, electric teal,
\nBrushing against the sky in the breeze like fiber-optic lamps.
\nIn the dream there was a feeling of utter silence,<\/p>\n

Palpable as sketches for buildings,
\nAnd I wondered when it would leave, if it would leave at all,
\nOr if it would exist only in the prism of that instant
\nWhere earlier I’d heard a voice urging me<\/p>\n

Through an anguished mesh of faces and rain:
\nForget everything you know, it is of no use to anyone,<\/em>
\nAnd your ominous conjectures will shrivel away<\/em>
\nIn the salt of your own affliction.<\/em><\/p>\n

I remember I sat in my seat just as I am now sitting,
\nWhispering over and over\u00a0dark is right, dark is right,<\/em>
\nAnd when I turned my face to the clear, dark window
\nI saw lions struggling to climb out of the sea.<\/p>\n
