WHILE WRITING<\/p>\n

Someone inside says, “Get busy.”
\nBut I\u2019ve got appointments to keep,
\nI have an abstemious love of equations calculated quickly
\nWhile the tepid day melts into design.<\/p>\n

And the high cheekbones of the beautiful life
\nBear the loose look of a calendar by lamplight.
\nI search for patterns in everything.
\nI am tied in knots of comprehension.<\/p>\n

I think, how useful it might be
\nTo pierce all the hands of the earth
\nWith an oath of pins encircling snarling planets.
\nBut talent and shallowness sewn together<\/p>\n

Is nothing but a kerchief tied around a survivalist\u2019s head,
\nAnd it helps to know the feet wriggling through a hole
\nIn the universe will land for an instant
\nUpon the cushions of the dark,<\/p>\n

And that after marching one doozy of a kilometer after another,
\nWe each come upon the same poem scribbled in invisible ink
\nTaped to the door of a room
\nIn which an austere justice is burning for us.<\/p>\n
