Marko Pogačar was born in 1984 in Split, Croatia, in the former Yugoslavia. He holds MA degrees in both Comparative Literature and History from the University of Zagreb. Author of sixteen books of poetry, essays, and short stories, as well as reviewer and critic for various literary venues, Pogačar is a recipient of numerous Croatian and international literary awards. He is the editor of Hrvatska Mlada Lirika (2014), an anthology of young Croatian lyric poetry, as well as The Edge of a Page: New Poetry in Croatia (2019), an anthology of translated poems by Croatia’s youngest poets. In addition to writing and editing, Pogačar also directs the largest poetry festival in Croatia, Goranovo proljeće. He has received fellowships from many international institutions, including, Civitella Ranieri, LCB, Récollets-Paris, Landis & Gyr, Lyrik Kabinett, and DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm. His books have been translated and published in a dozen other languages.

Andrea Jurjević was born in Rijeka, Croatia, in the former Yugoslavia. Her poetry collections include In Another Country (2022 Saturnalia Books Prize), Small Crimes (2015 Philip Levine Prize) and Nightcall (ACME Poem Company Surrealist Series 2021). Her book-length translations from Croatian include Olja Savičević’s Mamasafari (Diálogos Press, 2018) and Marko Pogačar’s Dead Letter Office (The Word Works, 2020), which was shortlisted for the 2021 National Translation Award in Poetry. Her poems, stories, translations, and essays have appeared in Believer, TriQuarterly, The Missouri Review, Crazyhorse, Joyland, The New Republic, The Writer’s Chronicle, and many other publications. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Poet and translator Charles Simic once said that “to translate is to experience the difference that makes each language distinct, but equally to draw close to the mystery of the relationship between word and thing, letter and spirit, self and the world.”  It is a supreme act of engagement with a literary text. With the Translator’s Page, we aim to feature the essential work of contemporary translators working across different languages and time periods.

Maja Lukic holds an MFA in poetry from the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Narrative, A Public Space, The Adroit Journal, Bennington Review, Image, Sixth Finch, Copper Nickel, the Slowdown podcast, and elsewhere. Currently, she serves as curator of the Translator’s Page and Board member of Four Way Books.
